Kenny Rogers - Love Will Turn You Around
ever since i heard it for the first time in ages on the frickin hilarious HBO series eastbound & down, it’s been circling my brain like a hungry vulture. i think this particular song has become an earworm because i remember it fondly as a motorhome-travelin’ youth seeing the movie six pack with my family on the road in the early 80s…somewhere in canada if i’m not mistaken. i must have been no more than 7 or 8, but i can remember watching this movie with my family whilst on summer vacation, and taking note of it because a motorhome figures prominently in the film and that’s the way my fam rolled on vacation: in a clunky ass mid-70s winnebago.
anyway, in addition to poker playing advice, kenny rogers once again proves a font of wisdom: emotional attachment to others can ultimately ruin any plans you might already have.
btw: yep, that’s anthony michael hall and diane lane starring alongside kenny rogers in the movie. netflix it.

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - Hooked on Classics (Parts I & II)
from the album of the same name, Hooked on Classics is the crazy blend classical music interpreted through the aerobicizing spandex and leg warmers of early 80s disco. i would listen to this album repeatedly on the turntable of my parent’s living room, and it’s probably the reason why i have such an appreciation of classical music today.
